7:15 Lounge

Materials: Maple

This Lounge Chair is crafted from maple, stained in vibrant crimson. Bridle joinery and sturdy hardware ensure comfort and durability. Designed for manufacturing efficiency, it exudes a light, inviting feel for practical elegance.

What was your goal for this project?

Kevin Wisniewski: I set out to make a piece of flat packable furniture that doesn't compromise the functionality or the comfort of the design.

How did your project change throughout the design process?

KW: Throughout the design process and the process of prototyping this chair, I was really able to nail down the proportions because, throughout my different iterations, I was trying to focus on maximizing the comfort for all users of different shapes and sizes. So I think being able to physically see different bodies in my chair definitely helped me get my proportions right.

What was the most challenging aspect of this project?

KW: Throughout this process, I definitely would say that the woodworking aspect of all the connection points and trying to get everything to come together seamlessly and smoothly was the most challenging, especially because this is my first time making a full chair. So I wanted to get everything looking clean and smooth as possible to make it manufacturable.

What are you most proud of about this project?

KW: My greatest success was going from my starting point of drawing a silhouette of this chair and reworking it to make it fit people's proportions but still staying true to that original design. I was really excited about the floating back and seat aspect, and I think sandwiching those two in between creates a super exciting design moment within the chair.
