Wooden Warriors
Materials: Reclaimed Ash, Walnut, & Douglas Fir
Wooden Warriors are Greek and Roman action-figure hero kits crafted using repurposed hardwood from the furniture industry. Stamped leather armor provides a tactile experience fostering historical interest in builders.
What was your goal for this project?
Antonio Licari: I wanted to make something that like a ten-year-old version of myself would really like to play with, but also move forward with a puzzle kind of education kit.
How did your project change throughout the design process, how did it turn out differently from your original vision?
AC: My original vision was a lot more detailed, but then as I started making them I realized it would be harder to reproduce, so I really wanted to make something easily reproducible and easy to put together for anyone.
What was your greatest success in this project?
AC: I think my greatest success was using a 3d printer. Not just to Make a prototype, but also to make jigs and tools for embossing leather
What challenged you most about this project?
AC: I would say working with wood and trying to choose certain like shapes was definitely challenging
In what ways would you like to further improve your project down the line?
AC: I'd definitely like to keep making these, and I'd like to make more and more people from history. I've made a Roman and a Greek, and I'd like to continue down that path.
