What was the first question you asked yourself when you started this project?
Ashley Valentine: The first question I asked myself was what makes a room comfortable, and what can make that more comfortable, and so that kind of guided me into making a light that brings comfort into a space rather than obstruction.
What were some of the deciding factors when designing Glida?
AV: The material choices that I made affected the process a lot. I had to account for the materials that I would be using as the color diffusers, and that decision defined the dimensions for the entire box and that was a lot of the questions and the differences that it made.
What was the most challenging aspect of this project?
AV: What challenged me the most about this project was that I had to really make the pieces fit together, and work together with different materials. It's hard when you bring wood and plastic together, but designing those to work together was probably the biggest challenge.
What was your greatest success in this project?
AV: I think overall the greatest success was the color choices that I made. I felt like they were really inviting and very comfortable and it brought very comfortable energy to the space that you add it to.
