Yotei Pack
Materials: X-PAC, webbing, plastic & metal hardware
The Yotei Pack is a versatile and rugged companion for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering missions. An ultralight roll top backpack constructed from durable and water resistant X-Pac sailcloth, the Yotei Pack is built to handle anything a mountain expedition may throw at you.
How did you start designing the Yotei Pack?
Emma Russell: The first question that I asked myself when starting this process was, how can I make a ski mountaineering backpack that is focused on women and people with smaller statures that is lightweight, and still has all the features that I would want in a day out skiing.
What changed the most as you went through the design process?
ER: Throughout this process, I learned a ton about backpack suspension. So that's something that drastically changed as I fell deeper into the hole of, how can I lighten this backpack without using lighter materials.
How did this project challenge you?
ER: The thing that challenged me most about this project is that I tried a ton of different load lifter systems, and they kept failing. Which leads me to one of my biggest successes, I finally figured out something that would work as a rope carry system and top suspension, so all of those failures definitely helped me to figure out the final product.
